Structure of the TOEFL® test
Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL) is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non native speakers wishing to enroll in universities or skilled workers
The TOEFL® test measures all four English-language skills. It takes about four hours, with one 10-minute break in the middle.
Here’s what you can expect from each section of the test:
READING: You’ll have 60-80 minutes to read passages and then respond to about 36-56 questions.
LISTENING: The time limit is 60-90 minutes for the 34-51 questions. You’ll be asked to listen to lectures or a classroom discussion, then respond to questions.
SPEAKING: There are 6 tasks in this section with a 20-minute time limit. You’ll be asked to speak into a microphone about familiar topics and discuss material you read about and listened to.
WRITING: You’ll have 50 minutes to complete the 2 tasks. After reading a passage and then listening to a recording, you’ll be asked to type your written response.
